The Rehabilitation of Masna‘at ‘Urah
Restoration of 13 houses belonging to the Ba Surrah family. The site was leased for 40 years in order to create a heritage hotel. The first stabilisation works took place in 2008-9, after the collapse of part of the largest mansion (Dar Ahmad al Qabily), and damage to two other houses (Nasir and Muhammad) caused by the flood rains of June 2007. This prompted the emergency works funded by the Prince Claus Fund (CER). By July 2009 all the threatened or damaged structures had been reinforced. The northwest corner house of Nasir Ba Surrah was earmarked for renovation, along with the external walls of four houses overlooking the Wadi, carried out between 2010 and May 2011.
